Developed by the Russell family in the 17th and 18th centuries into a fashionable residential district, today leafy Bloomsbury attracts affluent buyers who are looking to enjoy the area’s beautiful garden squares, its literary connections – the Bloomsbury Group of artists met in private homes in the district at the beginning of the 20th century – and countless cultural, educational and health-care institutions.
James Burton, the architect responsible for the design of Regents Park, planned much of the Bloomsbury area, which contains some of London’s finest formal squares, many of which are surrounded by beautiful and grand Georgian town houses.

The Brunswick Shopping Centre boasts a variety of chain restaurants such as Carluccio’s and Itsu. The Bloomsbury outpost of Steak & Lobster caters for the crowd looking for something a bit trendier. There is also a good selection of fashionable dining options in Bloomsbury’s neighbour, Fitzrovia.
Bloomsbury contains a selection of small bars and pubs, the Museum Tavern and Marquis Cornwallis are two stand-out traditional pubs. It is conveniently located for The London Cocktail Club, in neighbouring Fitzrovia, or celebrity haunt, Chiltern Firehouse, in nearby Marylebone.

Bloomsbury is extremely convenient for transport. As well as Goodge Street (Northern line) and Russell Square (Piccadilly line) tube stations, Kings Cross St Pancras (Circle, Piccadilly, Hammersmith & City, Northern, Metropolitan, Victoria lines and mainlines), and St Pancras International (Eurostar) are located to the north of the area.
